AFFIRM Awarded Suffolk County STOP-DWI Contract to Help Reduce Deaths and Injuries from Alcohol and Drug-Related Crashes
(Pewaukee, WI…March 8, 2016) After a competitive RFP process, AFFIRM has been awarded a contract with the Suffolk County, New York STOP-DWI Program. The Special Traffic Operations Program for Driving While Intoxicated (STOP-DWI) was developed in New York to reduce deaths and injuries due to alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes. The program promotes DWI prevention as a public priority and coordinates local efforts in areas including Law Enforcement, Probation, and Rehabilitation. Since the Program’s inception, the chances of being killed by a drunk or impaired driver in New York have been reduced by 70 percent.
For the next five years, AFFIRM will develop a strategic, targeted media campaign to promote safe driving behavior and raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving in Suffolk County. This campaign will also help to promote the overarching New York State STOP-DWI Association’s new HAVE A PLAN mobile app, which provides a number of different ways a person can help prevent drunk driving, including a blood-alcohol estimator and a safe ride home feature.
