Car Free Day Long Island 2015 Successful in Raising Awareness of Alternative Ways of Commuting
(September 28, 2015…Pewaukee, WI) AFFIRM is pleased to announce that the marketing and public relations campaign for Car Free Day Long Island, held on September 22, 2015 (https://carfreedayli.com/) was a resounding success in helping raise awareness of the alternatives to commuting by car that save energy and the environment. AFFIRM is the agency of record for the Long Island Rail Road’s TRANSIT SOLUTIONS Campaign to Increase Transit Usage, which promotes pre-tax transit benefits and alternative modes of transportation to driving on Long Island. In addition to TRANSIT SOLUTIONS and the Long Island Rail Road, other Car Free Day LI sponsors include NICE Bus, 511NY Rideshare and Suffolk County Transit. This year’s results exceeded the record results from 2014 in total pledges, miles of driving saved, and total reduction in CO2 emissions:
- Total pledges: 2,963 (4% increase from 2,855 in 2014)
- Total miles saved: 77,660 miles (8% increase from 72,000 miles in 2014)
- Total CO2 reduction: 39 TONS (8% increase from 36 TONS in 2014).
Car Free Day Long Island also experienced increased involvement from organizations throughout the region:
- Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced Suffolk County will soon offer County employees the pre-tax transit benefit
- Seven municipalities earned Car Free Day LI Municipal Challenge Awards for promoting Car Free Day LI in their municipalities and encouraging their residents and employees to try commute alternatives
- Significant press coverage from FiOS1 and WALK FM
- 12 Long Island Colleges and Universities participated in pledging activities for Car Free Day LI
- Farmingdale State College hosted a great Car Free Day LI Rally
