AFFIRM Celebrates World Car Free Day with Events in Long Island, NY and Indianapolis, IN
(Pewaukee, Wis…September 23, 2016) For over a decade, hundreds of cities across the world have celebrated World Car Free Day on every September 22. This year, AFFIRM helped Long Island, New York and Indianapolis, Indiana celebrate this annual event.
For the fourth consecutive year, AFFIRM collaborated with the Long Island Rail Road and other partners to host Car Free Day Long Island. In addition to the event’s growing number of corporate sponsors and participants, 4,111 Long Islanders took the pledge to be car free or car-lite on September 22, saving over 84,000 miles of driving and 42 tons of CO2 emissions. Since its inception, Car Free Day Long Island has grown to be the second largest Car Free Day celebration in the US.
As the Advertising Agency of Record for the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority’s Commuter Connect program, AFFIRM coordinated the first annual Car Free Day Indy in Indianapolis. On September 22, Commuter Connect hosted events at several Indianapolis-area locations, including Angie’s List and Monument Circle, featuring free live music, refreshments, and Emergency Ride Home passes – an important benefit of Commuter Connect’s program providing carpoolers with free rides home in emergency situations. With nearly 600 pledges and major coverage from Indianapolis media, Commuter Connect leaders deemed the first annual Car Free Day Indy to be an extreme success and are already making plans for the second annual event in 2017.
