Change – Yay or Nay?

If you’re like me, you have a love-hate relationship with change; sometimes, you welcome it with open arms and others, you’d rather stick to your tried and true routine. But, in the case of advertising where the industry is ever-evolving, it’s better to embrace change to be sure you’re using tactics that effectively reach your target audience while making the best use of your budget.

No matter where you land on the “comfort with change” scale, here are some tips for updating your marketing plan:

Desire change: Good for you! Be sure to keep up on new trends (advertising on Snapchat is a thing!) and explore your options! The advertising world is your oyster!

Comfortable with change:  Work some A/B testing into your advertising by implementing different tactics every year or two to determine which work best year-over-year. That way, you can be comfortable knowing your final media mix is the most effective for your business.

Skeptical about change: A little hesitant to jump the gun on modern tactics? Every few years, do your research and introduce one new tactic to your media mix that will best suit your goals. If, for example, you haven’t tried a geo-targeted online campaign yet – try it! Chances are, it will work. Or, if you tried a tactic years ago and didn’t love it, don’t be afraid to try again; your audience’s behaviors may have changed over the past decade!

Avoid change: As they say, ““if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” If your current tactics are effective, don’t stop! But, be sure to be proactive before they no longer help you reach your goals.
