How I started in this business:

I was hired by my dad who owned a network of mental health clinics (and the toughest boss I ever had). In my first week, I helped support a national news conference where a huge grant from the federal government for a four-year research program was being announced. It allowed me to start working in marketing and PR right away.

What I like most about my job:

I really enjoy helping people open up and engage in two-way conversation. Truly listening and communicating is extremely important to get the message out and is my favorite thing to do. I enjoy talking with people, listening, researching, and finding out what makes them tick – what they’re thinking about, what motivates them, what they want and need to hear – and creating a strategy that will build positive success for the client and end customer.

When I’m not at work:

I am making sure my whole family is together, having fun and staying busy. If I have just a little time for myself, you’ll find me in one of the theatre companies in town – on stage.

Best advice I ever received:

The best marketing advice I ever received is to make sure you’re communicating what people want and need to hear rather than what you want to tell them. Say your lines and get off the stage.

If I weren’t doing this:

As far as the arts are concerned, I’d take a chunk of money and make sure kids have access to the arts, or teaching theatre to kids.

To me, Positively Engaging Marketing means:

Building and growing a relationship between the messenger and the target audience that is mutually beneficial.
