How I started in this business…

Early on, I realized that I had talent and an interest in art, but couldn’t make much of a career as a painter or illustrator without some serious skill or name recognition. My art teacher in high school encouraged me to pursue graphic design, so I started there and moved on to web design.

What I like most about my job…

Solving problems. In web design, it seems like every day there’s something new. There’s always something new to learn, something that I can do better, or something that I can help my clients with to achieve the most user-friendly site.

When I’m not at work…

When I’m not spending time with my wife and two boys, I enjoy fishing, golfing, downhill skiing, or basically anything recreational outdoors. I also love projects where I’m building things with my hands, like carpentry and woodworking. When I can find time for it, I enjoy playing guitar as well.

Best advice I ever received…

Value people. Put people ahead of the project; to really, truly understand their backgrounds and take an interest in them, because work will always change but people are what matter.

If I weren’t doing this…

I would probably be either a miniature movie set designer for films like Lord of the Rings, or a cake decorator for a show like Ace of Cakes, or a professional Lego builder.  I think it would be fun to make things that are as realistic as possible on a small scale.
